LUCKNOW: A drop of blood can save your life. Or help security agencies nab a terrorist. A pin prick will ensure the safety of your little one.
With the formal opening of a human DNA bank at the Biotech Park on Tuesday, Lucknow has become a hub of genetic research and activity metamorphosing into a viable philanthropic-commercial model. While the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) is conducting genetic research, the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) is in the process of establishing a cytogenetic lab for disease specific genetic profiling.
And, even as the city celebrates the new-found status of developing the world's first human DNA bank for general public, it will be second to only FBI in its attempt to keep a record of criminals' DNA profile.
The DNA identification system (DIS) proposes to give a near perfect way to check crime and terrorism, as also ensure the safety of your near and dear ones. If implemented as per the vision, the DIS will record the minutest details of people along with their DNA profile to ensure a perfect identification tool.
